Our house, then and now
The three arched windows are the same ones you see in the photograph from the early 1900s.
The pink stone columns and capitals of the loggia come from the ruins of Castel Mani, the castle that once overlooked the village and guarded the routes between the Giudicarie and the Val di Non. After Napoleon's troops passed through and the Prince-Bishopric of Trento came to an end in the early 1800s, the castle slowly fell into ruin.
As often happened, its stones became a quarry for the village: our family, known locally as the «Pariani» (a family nickname rather than our surname), salvaged its columns and carved stonework for the loggia of the house in the hamlet of Prato. The ruins of Castel Mani can still be seen above Glogo, while its columns live on here.
